Need help deciding a career path.. Automotive tech or college degree?
Yeah, a technical school will get you into a well-paying job quicker, but like the other person said, there's a cap on how much you can make or do. Plus, you don't get a well-rounded education in technical school. Another problem with technical school is they often skimp on theory and teach only practical aspects -- they teach you how to fix what someone else made, but they don't teach you the kind of skills to design your own engine. I'd say if you're really interested in cars, you can get the Automotive tech certification, but then after a little while, go back to college and study automotive engineering or mechanical engineering -- it will be harder, but you will understand a lot more about cars than you could understand by tinkering and working in a shop.
