Is speaking in tongues a bunch of rigmarole?

I have SEEN people supposedly speaking in tongues, but I personally do not know them, so they can be skitzophrenic, or I don't know what else. I do not believe those channels where some priest will touch your forehead and you all fall down, and I hate how they over inunciate every word. I am Christian, and I have no doubt in my mind that I am saved, but I am a little skeptical about the whole speaking in a holy language. I have hung out with someone who is skitzophrenic and they do talk gibberish, so couldn't it be the same thing in a church?? I know tongues the language was mentioned in the bible, but I don't know anything about now. I have also met some people who didn't have skitzophrenia who said that they spoke in tongues, but that could also be just what they are saying. I am not that gullible. What do you think?
