Is this some kind of hacker?

I have a laptop and wireless internet....Ive always heard for security I should completey shut down but sometimes I dont and I just shut the computer & hit the on on my computer that allows the internet connection.... The weird thing that is sometimes the internet on lights up again on its own and the computer chimes like its booting up.....sometimes it will happen hours after I used it too.....why?
